I'll put in a plug for Fiddler on the Roof, which is a pretty fabulous piece of theatre, and JC Superstar which is just good hippie fun.
And, of course, Dawn of the Dead - The Musical, When there's no more room in hell, the dead will sing and dance!
It's just around the corner, I'm fairly sure....

Street Where You Live was sung by Jeremy Brett, one of my favorite actors who ever picked up the pipe and said "The game's afoot Watson!" As Sherlock Holmes. My favorite song from that one has to be "Little Bit of Luck" or Rex Harrison's rantish "Why Cant a Woman?" Speaking of Sherlock Holmes, did anyone else watch the series 2 premier of Sherlock on PBS this evening. In case you missed it, it was excellent. The writer, Stephen Moffat, did an excellent job with this episode. He also wrote the episodes for the series Jekyll (mentioned elsewhere) and a dozen or so episodes for Dr. Who, if you are into that kinda thing.

My wife has gotten me hooked on "Les Miserables", excellent. I really enjoyed "Phantom of the Opera", which a certain Wildman found on these boards passed his tickets to me and friend a number of years ago. (btw Thanks again.)

Singin' in the Rain. Gene Kelly was perfect in in that.
Gene was perfect in everything.. I often told my wife that there is no other equal to D'Artagnan than what he did in three musketeers.. Ah yes. With Vincent Price, Angela Lansbury, Keenan Wynn, and *romantic sigh* Laaaannna Tuuuuuurrrrnerrrrrr..... I'll put in a plug for Fiddler on the Roof, which is a pretty fabulous piece of theatre, and JC Superstar which is just good hippie fun.

Fiddler is a great one. I admit my least favorite musicals are things like Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Godspell, and Jesus Christ Superstar. Though I admit my bias may be due to the fact that in high school, those 3 were always being produced by our theater department. We did 4 shows per year. Those 3 were always standard, and then they'd bring in a new one every year. And of course as students, we were always "treated" to performances made mandatory by teachers whom I felt sure only made us see the productions because they believed we'd somehow forgotten it from last year.

Got to see the Lion King at the Pantages theater in LA during it's original showing. Amazing. If you ever get a chance to see it spend the money and sit down in front, you won't regret it as the play comes alive throughout the walkways and in the crowd.
Other than that I've seen the obvious Phantom and Cats and some others i can't remember the name of.

The only stage production musical I've seen is Camelot with Richard Harris (memories failing, I'm pretty sure it was RH), which I enjoyed, but then it's a subject matter thing for me... For movie productions... Jesus Christ Superstar, just because it's such an acid trip perspective... Hair, good music, energy, and Beverly D'angelo nekked (what's not to love) ... Rocky Horror Picture Show, just for the purely beautiful freakshow that it is... And the wife bought The Phantom of the Opera and wanted me to watch it... and I thought, really?... yawn... and then I totally got sucked into it and loved it... Other than that, I'm not a big fan of musicals...

I like a lot of the early 70's ones that my folks would play on sunday mornings when I was a kid. Ain't Missbehavin', The Wiz, and Cabaret stand out in particular as ones that I'll still listen to sometimes.
For Movies I loved Hedwig and Moulin Rouge, I still really enjoy Oliver every time I watch it. Quadrophenia drags in parts and isn't very polished, but I liked it overall. It has an honest feel to it.

I was about to mention 7 Brides for 7 Brothers, but was beat to it.
As the father of teenaged girls, I have to admit to seeing all of the High School Musical movies. I really enjoyed the first one. What I like best about the movies is that they got pretty people with some talent to them, and it made musicals 'cool' again. There were high schools all across the country that did their own 'High School Musical' productions based on the movie. Getting more kids interested in music and acting can be a good thing.
