The only heads up I have ever seen is seeing realms pop up as open positions. Otherwise, I do not believe that Thom tells any player that anything is going on. Period. It would not be fair and Thom is scrupulously fair.

Didnt thom tell Charles about it when his realm exploded? i could have swore he did... Didn't Cupcake just say that when the DF results in open player positions, Thom will talk to the original player to ask them which position they want to play? I could have sworn she did. |

I implied... I wasn't as explicit as you, FB.
Still, I don't think Thom comes right out and says, "you've DF'd" but in the case of say a Civil War or something, that seems as though he will ask. If regions or dependencies rebel, such as in the case of Itaxik, I do not believe Itaxik was asked.

Based on my experience, yes, when you have to pick (split into two+ positions) you will get told a head of time, and given some basis for choosing (no numbers I would guess based on my experience, just a rough description and maybe a map). When stuff just rebels/falls off, no warning until you see it in the newsfax (or rumor). I've had both several times, so I'm all for karma getting off her keister and going and messing with someone else for a while. ^_^
