Can somebody please explain to those not aware what this Tethys game was about, preferably in concise form - a general overview if you will. If it has any bearing on this game I'd certainly like to know. If it really does have some impact I'd also like to know who I can badger for info and details :-)

"Tethys" is the name of the previous Cruenti Dei campaign world. There were two major campaigns that took place on it- Tarbyr and Priban. Priban was an Imperial system, similar in some respects to Sahul, but with significant differences as well. Tarbyr was simply a large area with a bunch of countries vying for power. The Tarbyr campaign was older than Priban, but both went on for a while. They were sort of near each other and commerce went between them- or at least contact. Near the end of that run of things, a third area was found, called "The Broken Lands". It's possible, but not confirmed, that Sahul is another continent on that world- or that it's a much earlier or later version of one of them. I think what's most likely is that they're in Thom's mind all different areas of a single planet, and that Sahul is in a much earlier timeframe than the previous campaigns. As far as the origin of the maps, I think they're all based on different epochs of supercontinents in Earth's own history, which may be why there's some similarities between them- the west coast of Tarbyr and the west coast of Sahul are very similar to each other in some places, for example. As far as impact goes, I don't think there's any in-game impact, although many of the current crop of players came from that old game, so some of us have a history.

There were also the Islands maps and the Urdan continent in addition to a polar area inhabited by Penguins...

I enjoyed the old game even if I did come in near the end, it was fun playing a country of pirates.
